This is in the shop for leather today. It has 48 miles on it. Just came from 4 Wheel Parts where it got the 6" lift.

Do you guys do whale penis leather?
![]() 06/28/2016 at 08:44 |

No. But that could bring in new business if we did.

Very Florida.

Yah know whut? I like it.

I always have a really hard time understanding people who mod brand new cars to this level (I make an exception for your type of work, Steve). I mean, you don't even know the thing yet. It's like dating a girl and going "Yeah, with a nose job and maybe a tummy tuck, I'll stick around for 4-6 more years, maybe longer."

Russian Oligarch Oil Money is definitely a strong target market.

I really hated the front end of the '16 Silverado at first. I don't anymore.

Overcompensating = CASH IN YO POCKETS!

As far as bro-dozers go, that's actually pretty tastefully done.

I will never for the life of me understand the constant comparison of cars to women, and this one is particularly eyebrow raising.
![]() 06/28/2016 at 08:54 |

It's a comparison you never make to their faces, but it never goes away. Because men.

At least the wheels aren’t black.

I still hate it when the lower strip is white LEDs or the grill is chrome. With the amber lower lights and the body colour treatment it just works.
![]() 06/28/2016 at 09:04 |
|
So do I
![]() 06/28/2016 at 09:14 |

Perhaps it would go away faster if people stopped perpetuating it?
And it definitely has been said to my face before, BTW. Not pleasant, pretty demeaning.
![]() 06/28/2016 at 09:14 |

Yeah I would agree with that. I really like these in black with body colored trim.
![]() 06/28/2016 at 09:16 |

Well they want both a car that is somewhat new, reliable, and nice inside, but also want a lifted truck. What is wrong with that?
![]() 06/28/2016 at 09:17 |
|
You know, I get that you get a truck so you can do truck like things, but I just can't see spending that much money on one. That's E class/5 series territory.

I’m betting spacer block lift?
![]() 06/28/2016 at 09:19 |

Well, I guess as long as you have all the verbiage of Magnuson-Moss memorized and are ready for all the battles, go for it! I'm just of the school that doesn't start modding until after the warranty expires and/or you start to get sick of the car.

Sticker was ~49k before leather/lift. I imagine it’ll be up near 65k after all is said and done. The lift and wheel/tire package was around $6k and leather is around $1000. Add in dealer markup and it’s going to be stupid expensive. But this is going to a rural NC Chevy dealer so it’ll sell pretty quickly I’m sure.

Wow, I’m sorry — I didn’t realize you were genuinely offended. I've been married for 12 years and we tease each other about this kind of thing constantly. Flip the genders and talk about hair plugs and beer guts. I don't mind. Analogies are just mental exercises.
![]() 06/28/2016 at 09:22 |

6" of suspension lift plus the bigger tires. The old wheels and suspension parts are in the bed right now.

I’d take a blue one.

Maybe some rich mahogany for the wood trim.

Pretty truck.

There’s no need to try to undermine my statements by claiming I’m offended, as if immunity to this particular experience makes you somehow more qualified to judge how people should react to being literally objectified. And unfortunately, being married to a woman has never stopped anyone from perpetuating sexist tropes, so no need to bring your wife into it.
Thanks for the apology though.

Choose a different word than offended...maybe “bothered?” I’m confused how lighthearted (and clichéd) analogies are a bad thing, especially when I’m not talking about an actual person, but rather a mindset that some takes toward their car. I’m only continuing this because I know you’re not just a random Burner trying to pick a fight. There’s a huge difference between poking fun at a car owner by satirically comparing his actions to how he might also judge a person; vs actually poking fun at a real person for how they look, which IMHO is usually off limits. And when I brought my wife into, my point was that she gets me back far worse than I rib her. It’s part of life. This isn't some college campus with "safe spaces."

The bumper wrap is seriously wrinkled - I assume waiting for a heat gun?
![]() 06/28/2016 at 10:23 |

Actually it’s waiting to be peeled off. It’s the protective plastic they put on the vehicles when they’re in transport.
This one’s going in the showroom of a rural NC Chevy dealer.

I’m not sure what that last bit has to do with anything, besides showing that you probably don’t know what a safe space actually is. For example, a group therapy environment where vets suffering from PTSD could be guaranteed to avoid loud explosions etc while still learning coping mechanisms. By definition, nowhere on kinja could be a safe space because it’s a public forum and there’s no way to guarantee your audience.
Anyway... Rule #1 is to be excellent. Perpetuating sexist tropes, whether or not you grasp their depth, is not excellent. Especially when you shrug it off with “because men,” boys will be boys isn’t an excuse for anything. Pretty open and shut.
![]() 06/28/2016 at 10:38 |

I’m going to concede on all points. Although I NEVER say anything on Jalopnik that I wouldn’t say in person, I’ve obviously touched a nerve here. (I first heard the term “safe space” a couple months ago and probably don’t know it’s meaning, but I’m still just making fun of its usage in mass media.) There is not a single comment of my 20,000+ that I wouldn’t gladly discuss with anyone, but if I have to face non-contextual pedantry to this level, I will just have to wave a white flag. I meant no harm and harbor ZERO sexism. Even “because men” was a self-deprecating joke, but if anyone were to take me literally, I can see how it could come across differently.

But what does an E-class/5series get you? A Taurus or Charger can do car things as well or better and at a lower price point.
![]() 06/28/2016 at 11:54 |
|
Fair enough. But at least with a BMW or Mercedes you can at least sort of justify spending 60k. You got a luxury marque. I'm just basically bitching that trucks are too damn expensive. And why is that? Because they can be.
![]() 06/28/2016 at 14:16 |

and because they have actual capabilities that cheaper cars dont have, unlike a merc E class. They are also very comfortable now, and drive just fine. So yes, the price is justified at least compared to the terrible value you get from german luxury sedans
![]() 06/28/2016 at 14:17 |

yeah but is it new coils or just spacers
![]() 06/28/2016 at 14:35 |

New springs/shocks/A-arms, etc. Bill was over $6k for the lift.
![]() 06/28/2016 at 15:53 |

That makes much more sense.
![]() 06/28/2016 at 16:06 |

The modifications are actually warranted themselves - Now, I’m not sure that GM would want to replace a U-joint that wore its bearings to powder because it’s at a significantly higher angle than it’s designed to be, but at the same time it’s a pretty cheap part and it’s better to just concede on warranty from a customer satisfaction standpoint. $175 or so in parts and labor paid by GM so a customer will return and buy a $50k+ truck in four years seems like a pretty good tradeoff.

Have you seen what the dealers up charge for your work?
![]() 06/29/2016 at 08:31 |

Most of them charge about 12-1600 depending on the vehicle and the work done. We generally charge between 9-1500 depending.
